Think Big: Living Inside Out
Growing up we are taught how to fit in and encouraged to conform to social norms and meet the expectations of others. We are allowed to make life choices as long as they are approved by many and make waves for few. But what if you’re miserable and your life totally sucks? What if all you have ever wanted to be was a an accountant but you’re stuck in an Amish Rock Band playing Ukulele because your mother had a thing for Black Sabbath?
The problem is that when we allow others to make our world for us, they will always make it too small. When we live inauthentic lives we feel stuck, unfulfilled and inadequate. What we have to do is learn to live from the inside out. Discover who we are, what our passions are and make a plan on how to get there.
What if one day you woke up and everything you knew was destroyed?
I don’t mean a little disrupted, I am talking biblical proportions, Job-like, l call it John-A-Geddon.
That’s what happened to me. 3pm. On a Thursday. Total recall of over a decade of sexual abuse by my parents and their friends that I had suppressed. So I did what my old boxing coach taught me. I tucked my chin and threw punches. I refused to quit.
Think Big: Living Inside Out is volume 2 in the Think Big Book series. It is a summary of the lessons I learned and the principals I had to re-teach myself. It is an honest account of the highs and lows of building a life from the bottom up, but this time with 50-odd years of knowledge and several lifetimes’ worth of experience.
