I was speaking at an event last month, and a question on PTSD Treatment came up. The person wanted to know “How to manage yourself and others around certain events in the year?”, events like Easter and Christmas etc. I reflected that one of the keys to Self PTSD Treatment was to have a high level of self-awareness, to know that these things could very well trigger a negative response from you.

I spontaneously wrote out a whole new session entitled “Controlling Your Environment”. I really do believe that this is a key in your personal journey of PTSD Treatment and recovery.

I talk about this particular the principle of managing PTSD Triggers and PTSD Treatment  in my book #dealwithit – living well with PTSD extensively because I think it’s one of those things that has really been foundational for my own recovery from post-traumatic stress disorder.

I find myself challenged when I go into a situation where I know I’m going to have some issues and there could be people that are going to interact with me or I’m unsure what their interaction is going to be and this leads to a high level of personal stress.

My simple self PTSD Treatment  method is that I have gotten into a habit of trying to control my environment. Things like what time do I get there, what time can I leave.  If I’m there and it gets tense, can I go for a walk?

Regardless of the scenario, and come up with a personal list of things I can do to help you relieve personal stress and give me a way to manage my responses. This is a big part of Self PTSD Treatment.
