“#dealwithit is a book for anyone who has lost it all. If you have been shot at, faced with sudden loss, blown up, screwed over (or in my case, screwed), this book is for you. I like to think of it as duct tape for the soul.” —Dr. John A. King

#dealwithit is the honest, raw, not-safe-for-work account of Dr. John A. King trying to piece his life back together, move forward and thrive after the spontaneous recall of over a decade of childhood sexual abuse by his parents and their friends. This recall event, or John-A-Geddon, was followed by the immediate onset of Complex Post Traumatic Stress, which led to the loss of his marriage, career and health.

This book shares John’s gritty process of rebuilding his life. On his journey, you’ll find practical tools, unlikely mentors and his trademark Aussie sarcasm. #dealwithit is the perfect book for anyone who is getting up to go again, or is in the middle of the fight and just needs to hear, “You can make it.”

I just finished your Memoir and really enjoyed it. You are a very good writer, researcher, not to mention very resilient. It’s amazing the things children can survive.

I love how you allow your past to refine you not define you. Your quote:

I wouldn’t run from what happened to me; I would run at what happened to me. I wouldn’t be embarrassed by the scars my past caused; I would recast them as medals of Honor in my mind. I would wear them proudly, and I would talk about them openly

I also loved the chapter on Commandment # 5~Honor they mother and Father. I’ve written about this many times and just finished reading a wonderful book on it by Alice Miller called “The Body Never Lies” The Lingering effects of hurtful parenting. I think religion paralyses and cripples many people because of this scripture/commandment in the Bible.

Best wishes and thank you for sharing your story,

    Lara Stang

    Simply amazing.
I was moved. I was challenged. I was encouraged. I am part of a veterans support group and have purchased 25 to hand out. Simply the best book out there…and I have read them ALL!!

My husband has PTSD and it has cost us greatly.
I wish Dr King had written this book 15 years ago, it would have saved us thousands of dollars on councillors 😉

What I really value was how honest and practical it is. We read it together and are applying it together.

I can not recommended it enough to people going through what we have gone through.

    Thank you Dr King.
Thank you for being real and honest and brave and a voice for us all !

Rick Scarpello from thisismenstheraphy.com sent me a review of #dealwithit – living well with PTSD.

It is very encouraging to hear someone with Rick’s training and personal background reflect on the book. I had always hoped it would help people and week after week I receive emails and messages to that effect.

I encourage any one needing to connect with a good therapist who has with personal experience in the area of over coming sexual abuse, to reach out to Rick.

    Thanks for the review Rick.
